MY JOURNEY
Pilates came into my life when I was at university studying contemporary dance.
It was a twice weekly class that me and my fellow dancers didn't take seriously. We didn't understand it. We stretched (and giggled at all the names). I secretly looked forward to it though. Walking into the on site studio filled with what I know now as a reformer, the wunda chair and the cadillac, intrigued me and challenged my body.
I moved to London and picked up my weekly pilates practice in various studios. It felt like slipping into a pair of old shoes. My body craved the movement and discipline after a few years of desk jobs.
I gained my pilates mat teacher training certification with Body Control Pilates in 2010. The years that followed saw me set up my own practice teaching mat classes in South West London whilst continuing to develop my skills with Body Control Pilates. In 2018 I completed my studio equipment training at the Lisa Bradshaw Academy in Cobham, Surrey and moved to Hove where I started to work in a studio environment.
I've learnt from some amazing teachers over the years and after 14 years of teaching I am still learning. In some ways I feel as though I’ve only just started. I remain dedicated to my own journey not only as a teacher but as someone who practices the method. As I delve deeper into the core of who I am I discover more about what I want to offer as a teacher. It goes beyond the exercises.
